Green Tea, Earl Grey & Fruit Tea Calories in Singapore: 5 to 345 kcal a Cup
The direct answer: a tea-shop green tea in HPB Singapore's default 500ml medium cup is 5 kcal with no sugar and no topping, and 170 kcal at regular sugar with a topping — a 34-fold difference for what is, underneath, the same tea. Plain unsweetened tea is effectively calorie-free: HPB records brewed green tea at 2 kcal per 100ml and unsweetened black tea at 1 kcal per 100ml.
Earl grey works differently. Earl grey itself is black tea scented with bergamot, so a plain cup is as close to zero as any other black tea. But the earl grey most people order in Singapore is earl grey milk tea, and HPB's 500ml cup of that is 345 kcal — and still 280 kcal with no sugar and no topping, because the calories are in the milk or creamer, not the sugar.
That is the pattern across the whole tea counter: for a clear tea, the sugar and the topping are almost all of the calories; for a milk tea, they are the smaller part.
Tea-Shop Green Tea at Every Sugar Level
How to read this table: the per cup column is the whole drink at HPB's own default portion for tea-shop teas, a 500ml medium cup. The per 100ml column is HPB's raw density figure. The sugar column is for the whole 500ml cup, and the percentage is against the WHO's 50g daily sugar guideline. Nothing here is estimated.
| Green tea (500ml medium cup) | Per cup | Per 100ml | Sugar per cup | % of WHO 50g |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| With pearls, regular sugar | 210 kcal | 42 kcal | 35.1g | 70% |
| Regular sugar, with topping | 170 kcal | 34 kcal | 34.8g | 70% |
| With pearls, less sugar | 165 kcal | 33 kcal | 25.8g | 52% |
| Less sugar, with topping | 125 kcal | 25 kcal | 25.5g | 51% |
| With pearls, no sugar | 125 kcal | 25 kcal | 15.4g | 31% |
| Regular sugar, no topping | 110 kcal | 22 kcal | 24.7g | 49% |
| No sugar, with topping | 85 kcal | 17 kcal | 15.0g | 30% |
| Less sugar, no topping | 55 kcal | 11 kcal | 13.1g | 26% |
| No sugar, no topping | 5 kcal | 1 kcal | 0.0g | 0% |
Fruit & Flavoured Teas: Regular vs the Lightest Order
Every row below is a 500ml medium cup, HPB's default for all of these teas. The left pair of columns is the drink as most stalls make it by default (regular sugar, with topping). The right pair is the lightest version of that same tea HPB records — named in each row, because HPB does not list a no-sugar, no-topping version for every flavour.
| Tea (500ml cup) | Regular, with topping | Sugar | Lightest HPB version | Sugar |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yakult green tea | 225 kcal | 45.9g | 90 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 19.2g |
| Peach green tea | 220 kcal | 47.2g | 105 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 24.7g |
| Mango green tea | 215 kcal | 42.0g | 145 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 32.5g |
| Passionfruit green tea | 195 kcal | 36.9g | 100 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 20.1g |
| Grapefruit green tea | 195 kcal | 38.5g | 95 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 18.9g |
| Honey green tea | 190 kcal | 39.6g | 85 kcal (less sugar, no topping) | 17.7g |
| Honey oolong tea | 190 kcal | 39.1g | 80 kcal (less sugar, no topping) | 17.8g |
| Jasmine green tea | 180 kcal | 37.4g | 15 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | Trace |
| Lychee black tea | 175 kcal | 34.5g | 65 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 12.7g |
| Peach black tea | 170 kcal | 38.1g | 70 kcal (no sugar, with topping) | 15.3g |
| Green tea | 170 kcal | 34.8g | 5 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 0.0g |
| Lemon green tea | 160 kcal | 24.2g | 15 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 0.5g |
| Plum green tea | 160 kcal | 34.3g | 60 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 12.0g |
| Oolong tea | 155 kcal | 30.7g | 5 kcal (no sugar, no topping) | 0.0g |
So if you want a flavoured tea that is genuinely light, the order of preference on HPB's numbers is: plain green tea or oolong (5 kcal each), lemon green tea (15 kcal), jasmine green tea (15 kcal) — all with no sugar and no topping. Sweet-flavoured teas like yakult, peach and mango never get below 90 kcal however you order them.
Earl Grey: Plain Tea vs Earl Grey Milk Tea
Plain earl grey is black tea flavoured with bergamot oil. Brewed without sugar or milk it behaves like any unsweetened black tea, which HPB records at 1 kcal per 100ml (2 kcal for HPB's 200ml cup). Add sugar and it becomes teh O territory — see the kopitiam table further down.
Earl grey milk tea, the bubble-tea-shop drink, is a different product. All figures below are HPB's 500ml medium cup.
| Earl grey milk tea (500ml cup) | Calories | Per 100ml | Sugar | Fat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Regular sugar, with topping | 345 kcal | 69 kcal | 36.6g | 13.1g |
| Regular sugar, no topping | 330 kcal | 66 kcal | 27.0g | 15.4g |
| Less sugar, with topping | 310 kcal | 62 kcal | 32.0g | 12.3g |
| No sugar, with topping | 305 kcal | 61 kcal | 20.9g | 13.9g |
| Less sugar, no topping | 285 kcal | 57 kcal | 21.3g | 14.4g |
| No sugar, no topping | 280 kcal | 56 kcal | 7.4g | 16.4g |
Going from the default earl grey milk tea to no sugar and no topping cuts sugar from 36.6g to 7.4g — a genuinely big improvement if sugar is what you are watching. But calories only fall from 345 to 280 kcal, a 65 kcal saving, because the milk or creamer stays. That stripped-down earl grey milk tea is still 275 kcal more than a no-sugar, no-topping green tea.
Green Tea With Milk, Matcha & Thai Green Milk Tea
The same thing happens when milk goes into green tea. Each row states its own HPB portion, because these drinks come in different sizes.
| Drink (HPB default portion) | Calories | Sugar | Fat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Green tea frappuccino, with whipped cream — medium cup, 500ml | 365 kcal | 39.3g | 16.0g |
| Green milk tea, regular sugar, no topping — medium cup, 500ml | 360 kcal | 26.0g | 15.5g |
| Green milk tea, less sugar, no topping — medium cup, 500ml | 315 kcal | 19.2g | 15.5g |
| Green milk tea, no sugar, no topping — medium cup, 500ml | 275 kcal | 6.8g | 15.8g |
| Green tea frappuccino, no whipped cream — medium cup, 450ml | 257 kcal | 35.9g | 5.6g |
| Thai green milk tea — medium cup, recorded as 517g | 238 kcal | 39.3g | 7.8g |
| 3-in-1 matcha latte (instant sachet) — cup, 200ml | 108 kcal | 12.9g | 2.9g |
A no-sugar, no-topping green milk tea is 275 kcal against 5 kcal for the same cup without milk. Skipping the whipped cream on a green tea frappuccino saves 108 kcal, though HPB's no-cream version is also a smaller 450ml cup, so part of that difference is size. The 3-in-1 matcha latte looks lightest only because HPB's portion is a 200ml cup, less than half the size of the tea-shop drinks: per 100ml it is 54 kcal, against 34 kcal for a regular-sugar tea-shop green tea.
Kopitiam Tea: Teh O and Iced Lemon Tea
Kopitiam teas come in smaller cups. Teh O is light; iced lemon tea is not. Each row states HPB's own cup size.
| Drink (HPB default portion) | Calories | Per 100ml | Sugar |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iced lemon tea — glass, 450ml | 162 kcal | 36 kcal | 39.7g |
| Iced teh O (teh O peng) — cup, 400ml | 60 kcal | 15 kcal | 12.5g |
| Iced teh O siu dai — cup, 400ml | 52 kcal | 13 kcal | 11.7g |
| Teh O — cup, 250ml | 48 kcal | 19 kcal | 10.0g |
| Teh O siu dai — cup, 250ml | 43 kcal | 17 kcal | 9.5g |
| Iced teh O kosong — cup, 400ml | 8 kcal | 2 kcal | 0.8g |
| Teh O kosong — cup, 250ml | 5 kcal | 2 kcal | 0.6g |
Iced lemon tea is the one to watch. At 162 kcal and 39.7g of sugar for HPB's 450ml glass, it is within a few calories of a regular-sugar lemon green tea from a tea shop (160 kcal for 500ml) and carries far more sugar (39.7g against 24.2g) — 79% of the WHO's daily guideline in one glass. A hot teh O is 48 kcal; teh O kosong is 5.

Frequently Asked Questions
Plain brewed green tea with no sugar is effectively calorie-free: HPB Singapore records it at 2 kcal per 100ml, or 5 kcal for HPB's 250ml cup. A tea-shop green tea in HPB's default 500ml medium cup is 5 kcal with no sugar and no topping, 110 kcal at regular sugar with no topping, and 170 kcal at regular sugar with a topping, which also carries 34.8g of sugar.
Plain earl grey is black tea flavoured with bergamot, and unsweetened black tea is 1 kcal per 100ml in HPB's database, so a plain cup is close to zero. Earl grey milk tea from a bubble tea shop is very different: HPB's 500ml medium cup is 345 kcal at regular sugar with a topping, and still 280 kcal with no sugar and no topping, because most of the calories come from the milk or creamer.
HPB records green milk tea with no topping, in a 500ml medium cup, at 360 kcal at regular sugar, 315 kcal with less sugar and 275 kcal with no sugar. The same 500ml green tea without milk is 5 kcal with no sugar and no topping. Thai green milk tea is 238 kcal for HPB's medium cup, recorded as 517g.
A tea-shop lemon green tea in HPB's 500ml medium cup is 160 kcal at regular sugar with a topping and 15 kcal with no sugar and no topping, with just 0.5g of sugar. Kopitiam iced lemon tea is heavier on sugar: HPB's 450ml glass is 162 kcal and 39.7g of sugar, about 79% of the WHO's 50g daily guideline.
HPB records yakult green tea in a 500ml medium cup at 225 kcal and 45.9g of sugar at regular sugar with a topping, making it the highest-calorie clear tea in this guide. Even with no sugar and no topping it is 90 kcal with 19.2g of sugar, because the Yakult itself is sweetened.
Only for the plain teas, and only with no topping as well. HPB's 500ml green tea and oolong tea with no sugar and no topping are 5 kcal each. But zero sugar only removes the added syrup: no-sugar, no-topping peach green tea is still 105 kcal with 24.7g of sugar, mango green tea 145 kcal with 32.5g, and earl grey milk tea 280 kcal, all per 500ml cup.
A tea-shop oolong tea in HPB's 500ml medium cup is 155 kcal at regular sugar with a topping, 90 kcal at regular sugar with no topping, and 5 kcal with no sugar and no topping. Honey oolong tea is 190 kcal per 500ml cup at regular sugar with a topping.
On HPB's 500ml medium cup, plain green tea and oolong tea with no sugar and no topping are the lightest at 5 kcal each, followed by lemon green tea and jasmine green tea at 15 kcal each with no sugar and no topping. At a kopitiam, teh O kosong is 5 kcal for HPB's 250ml cup.

Every per-cup and per-glass figure in this article is HPB's own per-100 value scaled to HPB's own recorded default portion for that drink, which is stated alongside each number; no portion size has been estimated. HPB records these drinks by weight; this article follows NutriKaki's convention of reading the values per 100ml and quoting cup sizes in ml, except where HPB's recorded weight differs from the cup's labelled volume (Thai green milk tea). Where HPB records a value as Trace rather than a number, it is shown as Trace. The 50g daily sugar reference is the World Health Organization's guideline, not an HPB figure, and HPB's sugar column reports total sugars rather than added sugars.
